Abingdon Elementary Patriot Program

Pre- Kindergarten

Pledge of Allegiance: Echo the "Pledge of Allegiance" and show how to say the pledge.

American Flag: Point to the American flag.

Community Service: Complete 1 community service project using the attached form and including a picture.

Kindergarten

Pledge of Allegiance: Recite the "Pledge of Allegiance" from memory and show how to say the pledge.

Yankee Doodle: Sing (or recite) "Yankee Doodle" including the first verse and refrain.

American Flag: Color the attached outline of the American flag.

Government Officials: Name the current President and Vice President of the United States.

Symbols and Monuments: Identify at least three of The United States symbols or monuments.

Community Service: Complete one community service project using the attached form and including a picture.

First Grade

Pledge of Allegiance: Recite the "Pledge of Allegiance" from memory.

Citizen: Draw or take a photograph of your home. Include your street, town, county and country. In addition, write a paragraph explaining why you are proud to be an American citizen.

You’re a Grand Old Flag: Sing or recite the song "You’re a Grand Old Flag".

Patriotic Symbols: Create a collage on construction paper of patriotic symbols from multiple sources. Examples include: The White House, Mount Rushmore, American Flag, Liberty Bell, and others.

Community Service: Complete a community service project. See the attached form for successful completion of this project.

Letter of Appreciation: Write a letter of appreciation to a soldier or an everyday hero. Children are to write a letter to a soldier who is currently serving our country or who has served our country. The everyday hero can include police officers, firemen, teachers, first responders and others.

Second Grade

Pledge of Allegiance: Recite the "Pledge of Allegiance" from memory and explain the meaning of the words "allegiance" and "republic".

America: sing or recite the 1st and 3rd verse of "America" (My Country Tis’ of Thee)

Rights: Describe 3 rights enjoyed by U.S. citizens (freedom of religion, speech, press, meet peacefully, vote)

American Flag: Understand the meaning of the design of the flag and flag etiquette

Map: Identify the United States, the state of Maryland, Harford County, and Bel Air on a map.

Symbols and Monuments: Identify 8 of 10 United States symbols or monuments.

Community Service: Complete one community service project using the attached form and including a picture.

Third Grade

Patriotic Pride: Sing or recite from memory the patriotic song "My Country Tis of Thee".

Government Officials: Complete a project with specified information about the U.S. President, the Governor of Maryland, the Harford County Executive, and the Harford County Council President.

Harford County Flag: Color the picture of the Harford County flag and correctly answer three questions about the flag.

Map: Identify and label the locations on the Harford County map.

Symbols and Monuments: Complete a project that showcases a Harford County landmark.

Community Service: Choose and complete ONE of the community service projects.

Citizenship: Write a paragraph that describes a "modern day" patriot.

Fourth Grade

State Song: Sing or recite from memory the first verse of our State song, "Maryland, My Maryland.

Geographic Locations:

Maryland Flag: Color the Maryland flag using the accurate colors. Answer questions regarding the flag.

Maryland Symbols: Create a poster, booklet, PowerPoint presentation, or other craft project which identifies 8 of the following official Maryland state symbols.

Maryland Monuments: Create a poster, booklet, or PowerPoint presentation about one historical Maryland landmark.

Citizenship: Create a poster, booklet, PowerPoint presentation, or other craft project on the subject "Top 10 Ways to be an Effective Citizen." Visuals should be included.

Political Figure: Write a short biography identifying the following elements of a political figure.

Maryland History: Create a poster, booklet, PowerPoint presentation about a famous person in Maryland’s history.

Community Service: Choose and complete one community service project. Fill out and turn in the attached form.

Fifth Grade

Recite the Pledge of Allegiance

Flag Etiquette: Answer at least 3 questions about the American Flag etiquette.

Star Spangled Banner: Recite or sing verse 1 of the song.

States: Label the 50 states on a blank map or sing the Nifty-Fifty United States song.

Identify the following: President and Vice President of the United States, US Capital, Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Maryland, United State Senators from Maryland, county, state, country, continent, and hemisphere we live in.

Recite the introduction to The Declaration of Independence.

America the Beautiful: Recite or sing verse 1 of the song.

United States Flag: Define the colors, stripes, and stars represented on our flag.

Recitations: Recite one of the following: Preamble to the Constitution, Bill of Rights, Paul Revere’s Ride, or American Creed.

Community Service: Complete one hour of community service with a picture and completed form.
